VOTING
If you are new to the area, please make sure that you register to vote. The next Town Municipal Election is Tuesday, June 2, 2026. To be eligible to vote, you must register at least twenty-one (21) days prior to Election Day.
You can apply to register to vote or update your information online, in person or by mail at the Jefferson County Clerk's Office in Charles Town. The County's page has some helpful information. Here is the WV voter registration.
HOW DOES OUR GARBAGE & RECYLING WORK?
Your garbage and recycling are picked up on a regular schedule. See the Utilities section on when. Please familiarize yourself with what you can and cannot recycle as each town is different. Link to Recycling page.
POST OFFICE BOXES
Within Town limits, mail is delivered to a Post Office box only. Packages through Fedex, UPS or Amazon can be delivered to your street address. A hint: Include both your street and PO Box addresses.
BUILDING
There are requirements per ordinance relating to any construction or demolition of buildings or fences. Look at the Building, Zoning & Historic Landmarks section of this website for more information or contact the Planning and Zoning Office at (304) 876-6858 with any questions.

SIDEWALKS – SNOW & DEBRIS
Property owners are required to keep sidewalks clear of snow, ice and debris.
And it’s required that the sidewalks in town be cleared within a reasonable time not later than 9:00am, and 4:00pm, each day that snow or ice accumulates.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
The MARC train is just three miles outside of town. The train runs from Duffields to Union Station in DC during the week. There is also an AMTRAK train that leaves from Harpers Ferry.
