Announcement of Town Council Vacancy

The Town of Shepherdstown is accepting letters of interest from dedicated and community-minded individuals to fill a vacant position on the Town Council.  This is chance to help shape our town's future and protect the well-being of our residents.   

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Town Council and Committee and Board meetings.
  • Represent the interests of residents and businesses.
  • Review and approve budgets, ordinances, and policies.
  • Collaborate with town officials and community organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a resident of Shepherdstown and a registered voter.
  • Strong commitment to public service and community development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with fellow council members and town staff.
  • Willingness to dedicate time for meetings, research, and constituent engagement.

How to Apply:

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest and a statement of qualifications to Mayor James Gatz at jgatz@shepherdstown.gov by April 2. 

The Town Council will make the appointment to fill the vacant position which expires on June 30, 2026.  Council members are compensated $1,200 annually.
