AGE FRIENDLY SHEPHERDSTOWN COMMITTEE
In keeping with Shepherdstown’s membership in the Global Network of Age-Friendly Communities, this committee’s mission is to make Shepherdstown an increasingly accessible, life-enhancing town where people of all ages and abilities can thrive and participate actively in community life. This committee will advise and work with the Mayor and Town Council in efforts toward this end. Zoom meetings are held monthly. More info

HISTORIC LANDMARKS COMMISSION (HLC)
This Commission is responsible for the oversight of the preservation of the Shepherdstown Historic District. HLC reviews applications for Certificates of Appropriateness as to changes to exterior architectural features of buildings located in the historic district in keeping with the town ordinances and guidelines. All applicants must review the guidelines before applying. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 6:00pm at the Town Hall. More info

PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE
This Committee provides oversight of the maintenance of town-owned parks, including all matters related to the town’s sponsorship of parks and recreation opportunities. In addition, it administers town-sponsored events at town parks. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm at the Town Hall. More info

PLANNING COMMISSION
The Planning Commission oversees matters related to Shepherdstown’s physical development including review and assessment of proposals for new structures and updates to existing ones, review of proposed large-scale developments, and amendments to the Town’s Zoning Ordinances. The Commission assists with long-range visioning for the development of the town. Meetings are held on the third Monday of each month at 6:00pm at the Town Hall. More info  

TREE COMMISSION
The Tree Commission assists in developing and maintaining a healthy, diverse, and beautiful streetscape throughout the town with trees that provide shade and evaporative cooling benefits, filter stormwater, and offer habitat and food for birds and pollinators. The Commission maintains an inventory of all trees on town property, actively monitoring their health and their care, as needed. They also respond to concerns of residents whose property is affected by town trees and plantings. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 6:00pm at the Town Hall. More info 

TOWN COUNCIL'S FINANCE COMMITTEE
The Town Council Finance Committee provides oversight to ensure that the Town’s finances are managed responsibly and in compliance with applicable ordinances and regulations, and that financial decisions are made with careful consideration of their impact on the Town budget and the community. The Committee leads the Town Council review and adoption of the Town budgets. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm at the Town Hall. More info

TOWN COUNCIL'S PERSONNEL COMMITTEE
The Town Council Personnel Committee advises the Mayor and Town Council on oversight of Town personnel policies and practices. Meetings are held as needed. More info  

TOWN COUNCIL'S POLICE COMMITTEE
The Town Council Police Committee advises the Mayor and Town Council on oversight of the Town Police Department. Meetings are held as needed. More info

TOWN COUNCIL'S PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE
The Town Council Public Works Committee advises the Mayor and Town Council on and provides oversight of the administration of Town Ordinances as related to streets, sidewalks, waste management, Town-owned properties, the upkeep of private properties, and all other related matters. Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of each month at 6:00pm at the Town Hall. More info

WATER & SANITARY BOARDS
The Water and the Sanitary Boards are responsible for oversight of the operation of the town’s water and wastewater systems. The Boards prepare annual budgets for the water and wastewater systems and advise the Mayor and Council on matters related to staffing, system maintenance, planning, and service and facility expansions as needed. The Boards represents the town in reviewing and approving extensions of water and wastewater services, such as to new housing subdivisions and commercial developments. Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:00pm at the Town Hall. More info
